During a ceremony held on Monday, Celtics center, Enes Kanter was sworn in as a US citizen and he announced the changing of his name to Enes Kanter Freedom, with Kanter becoming his middle name and Freedom his last.
Kanter has been a human rights advocate throughout his time in the NBA, most recently calling out China and other players around the league, including Jebron Lames for being quite against the human rights atrocities going on against the Uyghurs.
He has also been highly critical of his birth country, Turkey, having this to say about their leader, Recep Erdogan “He is a bad, bad man, he is a dictator and he is the Hitler of our century.” Enes' family has been harassed by the Turkish government and there is an arrest warrant out for him due to these comments made against their leader.
