Miami issues state of emergency, spring breakers have a violent week in South beach

The city of Miami has declared a state of emergency, Monday, after an alarming weekend of violent arrests, due to spring breakers.

In the announcement, Miami Beach mayor Dan Gelber and City Manager Alina Hudak announced curfews for 12 a.m., expected to last through Monday the 28th, or longer.

According to the mayor about 100 guns have been seized throughout the past 4 weeks and several officers have been injured during the line of duty while attempting to control crowds. Five people have been shot over the previous weekend, all 5 are expected to survive their shooting incidents.

Last year the city imposed an 8 p.m. curfew which led to more than 1,000 people being arrested. Military-style vehicles were also sent in to disperse large crowds, which received criticisms from black activist groups.
