U.S. officials now classify Britney Griner as being wrongfully detained in Russia after Feb Arrest


The Biden administration has elected to change the classification of WNBA player, Britney Griner's detainment in Russia. Signifying the United States taking aggressive action to secure her release. This comes a week after Trevor Reed was released from Russian Prison in a criminal exchange.


Russian authorities Detained the Phoenix basketball player when they found vapes containing traces of cannabis oil. She has remained in Russian custody since. The main concern from the Biden administration has been access to American consular affairs officials since Griner's arrest. Griner has served 75 days in prison so far.


Congressman and senators have called on Biden to make Griner's release a priority amid Putin's wartime effort.
